Chandru Narayan

My name is Chandru Narayan. I came to the US in 1984 to do my Masters in Mechanical Engineering. My research are was in Solar Engineering investigating Phase Change Industrial space heating systems. I was on a full scholarship from DuPont Corporation for this research work. I did my Masters at Clemson University, South Carolina. M published my research as a paper in the Solar Enineering Journal in 1985.

My first job was at General Motors in Warren Michigan at their research labs. I designed and implemented real time software to test automobile engines on huge dynamometers. I wrote interruptible real-time software to drive the dynamometers on multi-week long cycles to test engine components and parameters like valves, crank shaft, emissions etc.

After 10 years, I took on an assignment with Boeing and then Siemens and Crane Aerospace working on design teams for fuel, sensors and brake control systems. Toward the end of my career at Crane, I managed global teams doing design and software work on aircraft systems including the 737, 777 and the 787 dreamliner platforms. After 30 years in the Automobile and Aircraft industries, I “retired” and went to teach at Bush High school. I was a specialized teacher focusing on advanced topics in Computing, Maths and Astronomy. I worked at Biush School for 5 years. I am not retired from any full time work. However, I work with Middle/High school students privately and teach classes for Boyce Astro foundation in between my interests.

My young students work on advanced topics in citizen science, learn computing & data science and publish their work in journals. Two of my students have won comprtitions and earned $80k scholarships for college. I take students to Mt Wilson each year for research work in various Astronomy topics.
